Cook, Mary June, for 95 years loved dearly her family and the many people who called her friend and teacher. With her strong faith and charming personality, she was an inspiration to many and will be missed by all who knew her.
She ended her earthly life on October 26, 2023. She was born July 2, 1928 in Colleen, VA to Junie Peeples Bryant and Mary Virginia Wright Bryant. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, VA her entire adult life. She spent her final years in the wonderful care of The Legacy in Staunton, VA.
She graduated from Nelson County Schools and James Madison University and taught in Augusta County and Waynesboro schools for more than 21 years, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of the Waynesboro Woman's Club and volunteered at Waynesboro Community Hospital and Augusta Health for 22 years. She also drove the TED van for 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Vinton Martin Cook, her parents and a grandson, Robert "Bobby" Steven Arehart.
Left to treasure her memory are her daughter, Jackie Cook Elston, and husband, Scott, of Richmond, VA; son, Vinton Martin "Marty" Cook II and wife, Linda, of Ruther Glen, VA; granddaughter Marta Cook and husband, Cal Trepagnier, of Washington D.C. and grandson Benji Cook and wife, Christy, of Baltimore, MD.
Also surviving are two sisters-in-law: Jean Hatter and Lou Cook, many dear nieces and nephews by marriage and two cousins: Emma Goodwin and Howard Wright.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, October 30, 2023, at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro. A celebration of Mary June's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro.
