Mary A. Schroeter (Aug. 24, 1927 - May 3, 2021) formerly of Crown Point, IN passed away on May 3 at Waynesboro Manor, Waynesboro, VA, where she has resided and been lovingly cared for by the wonderful people there since 2008.

She loved going shopping, playing bingo, and just about any of the activities going on at The Manor until recently when she was no longer able to participate due to her declining health.

Mary was born in Kansas to Ace and Margaret Martin, and lived there until after college when she took a job in Indiana. It was there she met and married her husband, Ralph of Crown Point, IN. They had one daughter, Marlene, and were married for 47 years before Ralph's passing in 1999.

Early in their marriage Mary took a job at the Lake County Star Newspaper, where she worked for many years as a Linotype operator, sitting at her desk at the front window of the Star. Mary also worked most weekends as a clerk at auctions where Ralph was the auctioneer.

Mary and Ralph loved to travel, which included special trips to Germany, France and Hawaii. Mary bowled on a Wednesday night women's league for many years with a group of her friends. She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Marlene Gooch and son-in-law, Richard Gooch of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren Mat (Erin) Gooch of Lincoln University, PA and Valerie (David Woodward) Gooch of Free Union, VA; great-grandchildren Peyton, Wyatt and Leila of PA and Brett and Colt of VA; sister-in-law Norma Ruble of Crown Point, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by husband, Ralph; parents, Ace and Margaret Martin; and brother, Lawrence Martin.

Mary was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Crown Point, IN.

There will be no service at this time. A Celebration of Mary's life will be held at a later date.
