Muriel Etta Aldridge Bellamy went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2012 at the age of 90 in Buckingham, Virginia while at the residence of her daughter.
Muriel was born on November 26, 1921 in Watauga County, North Carolina to the late Bob Aldridge and Minerva Townsend Aldridge. She was born and raised on the Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina until the age of 16 when her family moved her to Virginia. She was the oldest of 14 children and as a result, was very family oriented. During WWII, Muriel moved to Waynesboro, Virginia to work at I.E. Dupont de Nemours. In 1943 she met and married Davis 'Bill' Bellamy. After the war, Muriel worked for years at Crompton Shenandoah Company. Muriel loved gardening and crafting. She was a woman of faith and was a member of Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church for many years.
Muriel is also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Davis 'Bill' Bellamy, two sisters, Paulette Aldridge and Vivian Aldridge Turner and one brother, Ed Aldridge, all of Scottsville, Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Aldridge Mowbray, only one day prior to her own death.
She is survived by her three children, Beverly McQuary and husband Rob of Buckingham, Virginia, Davis 'Dave' Bellamy and wife Cathy of Grottoes, Virginia and Elizabeth Huffer and husband Randy of Staunton, Virginia. She is also survived by grandchildren; Melissa Lummus of Anderson, South Carolina, Anthony and Andrew Batten of Richmond, Virginia, Chris and Jacob Bellamy of Waynesboro, Virginia, Jamie Bellamy of New Bern, North Carolina, Brooke Morris of Staunton, Virginia, several step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Muriel is also survived by 9 remaining brothers and sisters, Allen Aldridge of Faber, Erma Roberts, Tom Aldridge, Reed Aldridge, Billy Aldridge and Hugh Aldridge all of Scottsville, Virginia, Bobby Aldridge of Buckingham, Virginia and Udee Payne and Dixie Fields of Richmond, Virginia.
Family visitation will be held at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro on Sunday, November 4th from 4 to 6 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church on Monday, November 5th at 11 am by Pastor Paul F. LaPrevotte, graveside service immediately following at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Anthony and Andrew Batten, Chris, Jamie and Jacob Bellamy and great grandson Cody Bellamy. Honorary Pallbearers will be the remaining grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. The family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Jaime Escanellas, the staff at Hope Cancer Center and the staff of Augusta Medical Center during Mom's many hospitilizations.
