Nellie had a change of address on August 31, 2021 and is now residing in her new home prepared by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was born August 23, 1934 in Augusta County daughter of the late Raymond L. and Annie T. Carroll.  Nellie was a long-time member of Blue Chapel Church of the Brethren where she served on various church committees and in the Women's Work.  She was also a charter member of the choir.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Reade January 16, 2004, as well as siblings Marvin Carroll, Rachel Talley, Marie Fox, Martha Monroe and Rodger Carroll.

She is survived by her husband, David Shifflett; her son Daniel E. Reade and wife Teresa of Waynesboro, and their children Vanessa Reade of Craigsville, Benjamen Reade and Andrea Ward of Waynesboro and their children Kayla Rose, Stella Blue, Orion Reade, Oliver Michael; 5 stepchildren, Brenda Roetto, Diana King, David Reade all of Waynesboro, Edwin Reade Jr. and Charles Wayne Reade of South Carolina and their children and great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Frances Broome of Lyndhurst.  She is also survived by a special great-great nephew, Parker Showalter as well a numerous number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at McDow Funeral Home on Saturday September 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM conducted by Pastor Gary Major and Pastor Mike Woods.  Graveside service will be immediately following at Augusta Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be one hour before the service from 10-11 AM.

Pallbearers Benjamen Reade, Nathan Showalter, Parker Showalter, Eddie Major, Quinny Dofflemyer, and Joshua Major.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren 19 Browns Lane Waynesboro, VA 22980.
