Obituary:  Philip Arthur Fistori, Jr.

Died peacefully at his home in Waynesboro VA on October 22, 2021.  Phil would have been 99 on his birthday next Thanksgiving Day.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Joanellen Hart-Bretches and her husband Donald Bretches, of Waynesboro; his son Philip A. Fistori III and his wife Ingrid of Alta Loma, CA; his grandson Seth Hart and his wife Molly and sons Luca and Wolfie, currently of London, England.  Phil was born November 25, 1922 in Boston, MA, and spent his childhood in the northeast in Maine and Massachusetts.

He graduated from Purdue University and served during WWII in the US Navy as Lieutenant Commander and flight officer and subsequently in the Naval Reserves, again as a flight officer, briefly participating in activities in Cuba during the Russian missile crisis and later flying jet surveillance and submarine reconnaissance turboprop aircraft from the Naval Air Station in South Weymouth, MA.  After honorable discharge from the Navy and during his Naval Reserve service, he was an executive at Emery Air Freight Company in Boston, MA.  He moved to Waynesboro after Emery retirement and the death of his beloved wife of 49 years, Joan Sheahan Fistori, who passed away in 1998.

He will be interred next to her at Saint John's Cemetery in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Phil was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing at the Waynesboro Country Club.  He will be greatly missed by his family and his remaining friends.

A brief visitation for family and friends will be held at McDow funeral home on Tuesday, October 26 from 11 am to 12 noon.
