Pierre "Pete" Samuel Warren passed away peacefully at his home on December 30, 2025.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Kathryne Thomas Warren and Almon Vaden Warren.  Pete is survived by his wife of 53 years, Amy Nelson Warren; his children, Carrie Temple (Warren) Jones, and Samuel Nelson Warren; his son-in-law Steven Wayne Jones; his grandchildren, Charlotte Temple Jones and Amelia Sara Jones; and his siblings, The Honorable Thomas Vaden Warren, Jean Clifton Warren, and Kathryne Warren Mitchell.

Pete was born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he graduated from James Monroe High School in 1963 after winning a state basketball championship. He then graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Civil Engineering in 1968.

Following graduate school, Pete served six years as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps with assignments in San Antonio, Texas, Washington, D.C., Frankfurt and Heidelberg, West Germany.  He was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal and an Army Commendation Award for his service.  Following military service, he and Amy moved to Waynesboro where Pete worked for 40 years as a consulting Civil Engineer for various consulting firms, including 16 years in an individual practice.  Pete was a Licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia where he designed critical infrastructure projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region such as transportation and structural projects and water treatment systems. Upon his retirement from the Virginia Department of Transportation, Pete hung up his slide rule for good and became a full-time granddaddy, one of his most-treasured jobs.

Pete loved living in the Shenandoah Valley and frequently drove the country roads near his home in Augusta County, especially in the autumn.  He shared his love of Virginia Tech with his friends and family with a yearly "Ode to the Wahoos" poem, written whenever Virginia Tech beat the dreaded University of Virginia in their yearly football match-up.  A lover of 1960s folk music, Pete passed on this love of the Kingston Trio; The Brothers Four; Peter, Paul and Mary; and John Denver to his children and friends during campfire sing-a-longs while he played the guitar.

Pete's steadfast love and support for his family will be dearly missed, but we know his legacy lives on whenever we enjoy a good cheeseburger and fries, when we see a beautiful sunrise over Turk Mountain, and when we hear "Grandma's Feather Bed" by John Denver.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church-Waynesboro on Saturday January 10, 2026, with a reception to follow to receive friends and family.  In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Hospice of the Shenandoah – Augusta Health at P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939.
