Ralph Sanford Mauzy, 82, a resident of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, passed away November 24, 2019.

A son of the late Ralph and Rosie (Selmon) Mauzy, he was born April 19, 1937 in Cherry Grove, West Virginia.

He attended the Monterey, Virginia elementary and high schools, and completed the 7 ^th grade. In 1975, he graduated from the Alameda High School in California. In 1979 Ralph graduated from Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, Virginia with an Associates Degree in Drafting and Design Technology.

In January of 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During a 20 year Navy career, he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer (Engineman). He transferred to the Fleet Reserve in November of 1975. He served his country faithfully, retiring in December of 1985.

Ralph married Eiko Nakamoto on March 21, 1972 in Tokyo, Japan. They moved to the United States in November of 1974. In November of 1975, they moved to, and settled in, Staunton, Virginia.

After preparation, Ralph started a new career in drafting and design technology. He attained the position of Design Draftsman before he retired in January of 1985.

Ralph loved gardening, woodworking, and the study of unusual aerial phenomena.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eiko (Nakamoto) Mauzy.

He is survived by his half-brother, James Fisher of Monterey, Virginia.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 1:00 PM in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by Rev. Dr. Glen Holman.
