Reed Enfield
Graves, Jr.
Jul 11, 1946 — Oct 27, 2021
Waynesboro
Reed Enfield Graves Jr. 75, of Waynesboro, VA passed away peacefully on October 27, 2021 at The Legacy at North Augusta in Staunton, VA.
Born on July 11, 1946 in Lynchburg, VA, Reed was the son of the late Reed Enfield Graves and Catherine Goffigon Graves.
Reed was a proud Marine and Vietnam veteran and his greatest joys in life were his kids, being Pops to his grandkids, and his work. He loved cars and had an uncanny ability to remember the year, make, model and engine of each car or truck he ever owned. He enjoyed a good cup of strong coffee or espresso, his pipe, eating good food, reading, camping, riding his Harley, telling a good story with friends, and more than anything, spending time with his family, especially at the beach.
Reed was a proud ironworker, crane operator, rigger and heavy hauler. His coworkers were like family. He was grateful for the old school guys who taught him as he was coming up, took great pride in mentoring those who wanted to learn and was truly passionate about working hard and doing things the right way. He spent the last 35+ years working at Valley Crane & Rigging (he never seemed to get used to calling it Valley Group…) where he traveled the country hauling and installing machinery. It's hard to put into words how much he loved it...it's what he was born to do.
Reed had two siblings who he adored. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother William (Bill) Graves. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth (Ditty) Stone, her husband, and his dear friend, Mike Stone of Lynchburg, VA; his daughter Carrie Graves Humphreys, her husband Mike, and their three sons Will, Miles, and Maddox of Boiling Springs, SC; his son Reed Enfield Graves III, his wife Misty and their two daughters Eleanor and Lucy of Waynesboro, VA; and many beloved nieces and nephews
In lieu of a formal service, a drop-in visitation to honor Reed will be held from 1:00 until 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 6th, 2021 at 901 Oak Ave, Waynesboro, VA.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make memorial contributions may do so to any of these three wonderful organizations: Augusta Health Center for Oncology, The Legacy at North Augusta and Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
