Obituary

Richard Dewar Tomey "Dick" 95 husband of his beloved wife Linda S. Tomey went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at his residence in Waynesboro.

He was born February 13,1927 in Empire Canal Zone, Panama to the late William Tomey and Ruth (Hayes) Tomey.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, William Tomey; stepmother, Fern Wilson; son Richard H. Tomey; daughter, Lisa Dofflemeyer; and grandson, Clinton Tomey.

Dick enlisted in the Army in 1944 out of high school and attended the University of Kentucky. He was commissioned 2 nd LT May of 1946. He also served in Japan during WW II as Platoon Commander of the 27 th Infantry.

Dick retired from EI Dupont in 1985 with more than 35 years service, starting in Columbia SC and transferring to Waynesboro in 1960 as an Engineer. Dick was self employed as a packaging consultant, and an Ergonomic consultant for 10 years.

He was a member of Grace Evangelical Church and Waynesboro Kiwanis. Dick loved to play harmonica for his grandkids, taking many of them with him to ring the bell for Salvation Army kettle in front of the liquor store.  He loved his family and all children.

Dick is survived by loving wife, Linda; son, Brian (Stephanie) Tomey; daughters, Rose (Daniel) Garvin, and Sandra Tomey; and sister, Barbara Hoberecht.  He is also survived by his extended family; sons, Gary ,and Larry Fridley and daughter, Gail (Tracy Smith) Fridley; grandchildren, Autumn Erickson, Andrew Bohi, Christmas Hall, Heather Tomey, Nate Tomey, Will Tomey, Missy Eppard, Lisa Pultz, Hannah Cale, Kalli Fridley, Breanna Dofflemeyer and Khloie Smith; 9 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Monday, March 14, 2022 at  Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 South  Wayne Av. Waynesboro , Virginia 22980.  Rev. Paul Pingle will be officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery. Masks will be required in the church. The service will be available to view online at gracewaynesboro.org

Pallbearers will be Brian, Nate, and Will Tomey, Gary and Larry Fridley and Justin Pultz.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Waynesboro Kiwanis.

The family will receive friends at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main Street .Waynesboro, Virginia 2290 on Sunday March 13, 2022 from 5-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Grace Evangelical Church, Waynesboro or Kindrid Hospice Harrisonburg.
