Obituary

Ronald Wayne Denney, of Staunton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 3, 2026. He was born on July 17, 1951 in Madison Tennessee, son of the late William Ralph Denney and Cleo Tomlinson Denney.

Ron is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathryn Coiner Denney; his son, William Cyrus Denney (Anna); daughter, Mary Denney Crawford (Scott); and beloved grandchildren, Edith and Frances Denney and Sam Crawford. He is also survived by his sister, Joy Denney Sims (Vance); his sister-in-law Amy Craig Denney; his foster sisters, Carolyn Howell (Lester) and Bobbie Jean Denney; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Ron moved to Waynesboro in his elementary years when his father accepted a job with DuPont. He graduated from Waynesboro High School, Lenoir Rhyne College and the University of Richmond School of Law. He returned to Waynesboro and
practiced law for 48 years.

Ron was a lifelong member of the Waynesboro Church of Christ. Active in the community, Ron served on the boards of Augusta Health and Augusta Health Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge. He was instrumental in creating Greenstone and Harvard Home residences for the developmentally disabled. He was president of the Staunton-Augusta Bar Association and received the Ajemian Humanitarian Award. He served the Waynesboro YMCA as both a president of the board and a longtime volunteer basketball coach, an activity that he enjoyed, as sports were a passion.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Waynesboro Church of Christ Missions Fund or a charity of choice.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, April 10, 2026 at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main St., Waynesboro, VA.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 18 Sofia Grace Drive, Fishersville, VA.
