Ronald Eugene Hunt, aged 85, went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 7, 2024, in Fishersville, Virginia. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, on August 25, 1938, Ron was a cherished figure in his community and loved by many. He was known for his caring and generous heart as well as his quick and witty sense of humor and love for laughter.

Ron dedicated six years to serving in the National Guard.  After his military service, he became a self-employed contractor and operated Hunt's Cabinet Shop.  After that, he embarked on a career in retail management with Sears. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to customer service were hallmarks of his successful career.

A man of deep faith, Ron was an active member of the Sherando Community Church. His commitment to his faith was evident in every aspect of his life, inspiring those around him.

Ron was known for his fun-loving nature and he made everyone feel accepted and welcomed. His hobbies included bluegrass music, where he played the upright bass in several bands, most notably Cousins for Christ (C4C), alongside his grandchildren. He was also a master woodworker and could fix nearly anything that needed repair.

In addition to his wife, Theresa, who he married on January 9, 1960, he is survived by his daughters Barbara Hunt Pugh (Mike) of Bridgewater, VA, Karen Hunt Shirley (Ronnie) of Stuarts Draft, VA, and Mary Hunt Cowherd (Eric) of Stuarts Draft, VA.  His grandchildren were Faith S. DeLange (Jordan) of Stuarts Draft, VA, William S. Shirley of Stuarts Draft, VA, Jessica P. LaPointe (Connor) of Gallatin, TN, Eric Rhea Cowherd, Jr and Jonah L. Cowherd, both of Stuarts Draft, VA; and his step grandchildren were John William Pugh (Crystal) of Dayton, VA and Micah Branson (Chad) of Broadway, VA.  He was blessed enough to have one great-grandchild Jayce DeLange; and three step great-grandchildren  Leighton Branson, Corbin Branson, and Alaysia Pugh. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Loreadie K. Hunt and William F. Hunt, Sr., and his brothers, William F. Hunt, Jr. and Gary L. Hunt.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sherando Community Church on July 12, 2024, at 11 am with Billy Coffey and David Rash officiating. Burial will follow at the Sherando Community Church Cemetery will follow.  McDow Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sherando Community Church building fund (2022 Howardsville Turnpike, Stuarts Draft, VA), honoring Ron's legacy and commitment to his faith and community.
