Obituary

Samuel Aston "Ackie" Loyd, Jr., 98, a resident of Waynesboro, VA, passed away Thursday December 1, 2022 at Regency at Augusta.

He was born January 19, 1924 in Lynchburg, VA, a son of the late Samuel Aston Loyd and Katherine Loyd.

After graduating from Virginia Tech with his degree in Mechanical Engineering, he entered service with the Merchant Marines. Later, he worked for DuPont, Acme Visible Records, and Data Visible.

Mr. Loyd loved many activities, especially canoeing, camping, and hiking. His true passion was spelunking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Vaught) Loyd; 3 brothers, Beau, Dick, and Allen Loyd.

Surviving are his daughter, Carol Childress and her husband Frank of Afton, VA, Kemper Loyd and his wife Sharon of Spottswood, VA; 2 grandchildren, Kevin and Katie Childress; 2 step-grandchildren, Bill Brannock and Vicky Cook.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Loyd will be held in the Spring.
