Obituary

Samuel Daniel "S.D." Cook, III passed away peacefully Tuesday January 13, 2026 in Charlottesville.

S.D. was born on October 29, 1953 to the late Samuel Daniel "Dan" and the late Hazel Weaver Cook of Greenville, Virginia. S.D. was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Dudley Cook, and sister, Priscilla Cook Truxell.

He attended the Stuarts Draft Mennonite Church. After graduating from Riverheads High School, he began his career at General Electric, eventually retiring from Genicom. After retirement, he started driving over the road for several companies.

He loved being outdoors when not working and loved to hunt and fish on the York River. S.D. helped out on the family farm where he tended to the cattle.

Surviving family includes his son Travis Brown (Shannon); brother, Jerry N. Cook (Wanda); two sisters, Joyce C. Hite (Homer), Frances C. Weaver (Daniel); two grandchildren, Christopher and Addison Brown; brother in law, Charles Truxell.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday January 15, 2026 at McDow Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Friday January 16, 2026 at McDow Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Pastor Kevin Gasser. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
