Obituary

Seth Edward McClain, age 55, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27th, 2025, in Afton VA. He was born October 30th, 1970, in Mineral Wells TX, to A.C. McClain Jr. and Nancy Ann McClain.

Seth is survived by his son, Emil; his parents; his brother, Jared (Kristi); and many cousins and close friends.

Seth spent his early childhood overseas in Isfahan, Iran and later in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  He spoke often of learning to appreciate the world through these experiences and sharing memories of playing in the compounds, alleyways, jumping out of buildings under construction into tall sand piles below, and enjoying the sights and sounds of the open air markets.  Seth enjoyed sharing his experiences as a youth in Nelson County, where countless hours were spent riding bikes on back roads, roaming the woods backpacking and camping, riding horses, and engaging in epic BB gun wars with his country friends.

Seth went on to graduate from Eastern Mennonite University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, and reside in Stuarts Draft, VA.  Seth worked first as electrician and later a construction project manager with Dupont / Brown and Root for almost 30 years managing multi-million dollar projects.  He had a knack for solving problems and was also known for tackling projects around the house where his talents were many, whether it was construction, operating farming equipment, plumbing or electrical. Seth gave time to his community when he lived in Waynesboro, VA as a reserve police officer for almost 10 years. He had many riveting stories from that service.

Seth was a devoted father and deeply proud of his son. He enjoyed hiking, backpacking, fishing, skiing, scuba diving, and spending time on the water at Smith Mountain Lake.  Seth also lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as spending time with friends and family.  He found happiness in learning new skills, which included becoming a certified pilot and, most recently, learning to play the guitar and beekeeping. Seth attained a 3rd degree blackbelt Sandan in Okinawan Kempo Karate.

Seth was a Master Mason and lifetime member of Phoenix Lodge #275 in Weatherford TX. He was also a member of Fleetwood Harmony Lodge #92 in Lovingston VA.

Seth asked that his Masonic membership be recognized, as well as a Celebration of Life for friends and family to assemble, reminisce, and enjoy one another's company.  Both gatherings shall be held at Wood Ridge Farm Brewery, 165 Old Ridge Rd, Lovingston, Virginia 22949 on Saturday, December 13th, 2025.  For those wishing to attend the Masonic Service, it will be held from 12pm to 12:30pm. The Celebration of Life will be hosted from 1pm to 4:30pm. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
