With deep love and gentle remembrance, the family of Sheila Lee “Peggy” Gilliam announces her peaceful passing. A devoted wife, a cherished mother, and a steady source of warmth to all who knew her, she lived her life with a quiet strength and an open heart to all. 

Peggy was born 2/12/48, graciously and lovely raised by Kenneth and Lena Fretwell; she resided in Stuarts Draft, VA. until she later moved to Waynesboro, where at she met her husband of 55yrs. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph N. Gilliam, who shared a lifetime of partnership, laughter, and unwavering devotion with her. She also leaves behind her beloved daughter, Kathy J. Gilliam, who was the joy of her life and the center of her proudest moments. Their bond grew deep over time, with mutual respect, and her daughter never doubted her mother’s endless support and encouragement. She also leaves behind her best four legged fur baby “Snowflake” that was forever found to stay by her side.

Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace, and they carry forward her spirit in the way she taught them to live: with generosity, grace, and a heart open to others.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Sept 11 at 2:00p.m. at Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren , where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share the stories that keep her close.
