James Sidney ("Sid") Langrall, 88, of Waynesboro, VA, peacefully departed this life to be with his Savior on November 28, 2021 in fulfillment of Jesus' previous promise to Sid (John 14:3).

Sid was born in Richmond, VA, grew up in Sandston, and spent most of his adult life in Waynesboro. His late adolescent and early adulthood summers were spent at Camp Virginia in Goshen, VA, where outstanding men influenced his life-long Christian commitment. He graduated from Fishburne Military School ('50), VA Tech ('54), and UVA ('73), which provided the training for his career in teaching and counseling.

After a two-year Army conscription in Korea and a short stint in the U.S. Air Force, Sid spent a year as a commercial pilot before devoting seven years as a Presbyterian missionary in the DR Congo and Brazil, teaching children of missionaries, serving as a part-time pilot, and experiencing a number of adventures that became a part of his storytelling repertoire. He returned from foreign mission work in 1970 to be married to Elizabeth Ann ("Libby") Gunn Parker and subsequently become stepfather to Wade T. Parker III and Christianne Elizabeth Parker. Later, the couple welcomed Ann Eliza Langrall into the family before Libby was killed in an auto accident in 1974.

After teaching science briefly at Fort Defiance High School, Sid became a guidance counselor at Kate Collins Middle School, where he remained until retiring in 1997. In his retirement, Sid continued to lead worship, refine his skills as a fix-anything handyman, and disciple others in Bible study. He will be remembered for his love of the Lord, sense of humor, warm smile, scientific knowledge, and the beautiful voice with which he sang folk ballads and worship songs.

Sid was a former member of Richmond's First Baptist Church; an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro; a founding elder and worship leader at Church of the Blue Ridge in Afton; and a founding member of Hope Community Church in Waynesboro.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Satterfield Langrall Kuhn; his father, James Hobart Langrall; two brothers, Hobart Lee Langrall and Charles Hooper Langrall; his stepfather, Russell Henry Kuhn; and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Gunn Langrall. He is survived by his three children, Wade T. Parker III (spouse Janet), Christianne Elizabeth Parker, Eliza Langrall Peltola (spouse Randy), and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Hope Community Church in Waynesboro, VA.
