Obituary

Thelma Christine Mines joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on Christmas Day.  Chris was born on May 20, 1939, the daughter of Paul and Mary Thomas of Cedar Creek, Hot Springs, VA.  She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Donnie Thomas and her husband of 64 years, Stephen Lafayette Mines.

Chris is survived by her daughter Shelba Mines Lindstrom and husband Scott; her two beautiful granddaughters Jenny Lindstrom White and Jillian Lindstrom Blevins along with their husbands Ryan and William.  Chris was also blessed with four great-grandchildren Kaley, Peyton, Elle, and Warren, who all loved her dearly.

Chris was a dedicated member of her home church of SherLynd Baptist in Lyndhurst, VA. Chris exemplified a strong Christian faith, teaching Sunday school to young children for many years including her own grandchildren every summer for vacation bible school.

Chris and Steve had many hobbies. They often hiked at Sherando, Humpback Rocks, and on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Chris was an avid gardener, her garden being a showcase of nature and a haven for all of God's creatures.  She was especially passionate for hummingbirds and looked forward to each spring for their return.

Chris was happiest with her family and friends, often baking birthday and wedding cakes as she also did for many people around Augusta County and Lynchburg, Virginia. Chris will be missed and was grateful for the companionship of her closest friends Ann Gunn, Mary Coleman and Jane Ryder.  Also a special thank you from her family to Centra Hospice and Samantha Stokes.

Services will be held Thursday December 29, 2022 at McDow Funeral Home at 1701 W Main St. Waynesboro, Virginia at 4:00 pm with viewing and visitation one hour prior.  Pastor Allen George will be officiating.
