Obituary

Thelma Smith Terry, 91, of Waynesboro, VA passed away at Oak Grove Manor on December 12, 2021. She was born in Sugar Grove, Pendelton County, WV on May 29, 1930 to John Paul Propst of Palo Alto, Highland County, VA and Hazel Jones Smith of Sugar Grove, Pendleton County, WV.  Thelma was raised by Pinkney O. Smith and Martha "Mattie" Smith, her maternal grandfather and grandmother.  She attended Pendleton High School in Franklin, West Virginia.

When Thelma arrived in Waynesboro, she first worked as a waitress at the Kozy Kitchen and then as a pencil assembler at Berol Pen.  After Berol Pen and for the remainder of her career, 33 years, she worked as a relay adjuster at General Electric Company, later Genicom. She was a member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, the Loyal Order of the Eastern Star, and the Waynesboro Fish and Game Association.

Not long after her move to Waynesboro, Thelma met Eddie Terry and they married in 1955.  Eddie preceded her in death in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sister Joan G. Marriner of Harrisonburg, Va.  She is survived by a son, Shannon Terry of Waynesboro, VA and two grandchildren, Adam Terry of Charlottesville, VA and Grace Terry of Waynesboro, VA.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins including Loretta Crickenberger (Tommy) and Norman Batman (Linda) who were an important part of her life.

Thelma's family would like to express special thanks to the caring staff at Oak Grove Manor who treated Thelma as family, providing both comfort and love. Thelma was especially blessed to be cared for and loved by Dixie Patterson and her daughter Autumn.
