Theresa Ann "Terry" Barnett, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Shenandoah House, surrounded by her loving family.

Terry was born on June 5, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York. She was the daughter of the late John Francis McAllister and Catherine (Mulhearn) McAllister of New York. In addition, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Jean Christman and brother, James T. McAllister.

Terry is survived by her husband, Daniel H.  "Dan" Barnett, a daughter, Jean Marie Shumate and husband, Clayton; a daughter, Joanne Barnett; grandchildren Nicole Shumate and fiancée Jonathan Peoples, who are expecting their first child, and Mackenzie Shumate, as well as extended family and dear friends.

Terry/Mom loved living in Virginia. In 1990, Terry and Dan settled in the house of their dreams in Stuarts Draft, after retiring in New York. She loved to entertain family and friends. She helped take care of others, through some hospice volunteering and private home care for some years. Terry loved to garden, cook, travel, and especially loved to read, craft, play scrabble and card games. Mom lived, laughed, loved.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to long-time Hospice workers; Tonya, Kathy, Cindy and Dr. Heck of Hospice of the Shenandoah.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11am. A time of hospitality with light refreshments will follow after Mass. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
