Wesley Hugo Simmons, 98, a resident of Crimora, VA, passed away Monday April 26, 2021 at the Retreat of Fishersville.

He was born April 20, 1923 in McDowell, Virginia, a son of the late John Wesley Simmons and Lucy Alma (Armstrong) Simmons.

He worked for People's Drug Store in Washington, DC; in the velveteen cutting and shipping departments of Crompton; and Perdue, Food Lion, and Sears.

Mr. Simmons served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during World War II, surviving the invasion of Normandy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Lois K. Simmons; daughters, Teresa Stewart and her husband David, Wanda Ellinger and her husband Jim; grandchildren, Daniel Stewart, Sarah Stewart, and Caleb Stewart and his wife, Liz, Chad Ellinger and his wife Kascie, Adam Ellinger and his wife Kristie; great-grandchildren, Ryan Snyder, Austin Bryant, Finley Sheffer, Morgan Ellinger, Tripp Ellinger, Wyatt Ellinger, and Maggie Ellinger.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday April 28 ^th at McDow Funeral Home. Those attending are kindly asked to wear masks.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday April 29 ^th in Augusta Memorial Park. A celebration of Mr. Simmons' life will follow at 4:00 PM at Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren. Pallbearers will be Daniel Stewart, Caleb Stewart, Ryan Snyder, Wes Eavey, Chad Ellinger, and Adam Ellinger.
