He was married to his high school sweetheart Jane Ellen Burger. They celebrated 65 years of marriage in April of this year.  He was well known as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and close friend to many.

Bill graduated from Boonton High School in 1955. Following graduation, he began a career in design and engineering with Reaction Motors in Denville, New Jersey. Following graduating from Penn Morton College in May of 1970, Bill attended The University of Virginia Darden School of Business' Executive Leadership Program.

Upon relocating to Virginia in 1974, Bill became very much involved in local and state politics, which included a tenure as the President of the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce, where he worked diligently with Governor Chuck Robb of Virginia, to bring new business opportunities to the state.  He also served as a founding member of the Board of Augusta Health Center, where he took on several leadership roles.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jaye Ellen Pfost.
