Winfred (Win) Eugene White

Win White (84)of Charlotte, NC joined his heavenly father on July 12, 2022. He was the son of the late Lloyd White and Lonia Welsh and the stepson of Jessie Welsh.  He was proceeded in death by his brother J.C. White.  Win is survived by his wife of 53 years, Drucilla White (Charlotte, NC) and his two children Randy White (Greenville, SC) and Staci White (Charlotte, NC).

Win was a man of God.  Win spent most of his adult life traveling around the country singing gospel music.  He was an amazing bass singer and sang for both The Laymen Quartet and The Gospel Four for twenty years. Win traveled with his family on a large tour bus and could be found in church on any given weekend.  He shared the word of God through song and blessed those around him with his beautiful voice.

When Win was not on the road, he managed two successful businesses.  He owned and operated a construction company that built homes and a roofing and siding company. One of the homes he built became the family home that he and his wife shared for 45 years together.  Win was a master with his hands.  He not only built homes, but he also built and restored furniture and made many special wood pieces for his family.

After his retirement, Win became more involved with his hobbies.  He loved to play golf with his family and friends.  He would always be dressed in plaid pants and a matching polo shirt.  Win also had a place on the lake.  This was his place for peace and relaxation.  He owned a boat, and he spent a great deal of his time on the water fishing.  He loved spending time with his friends and loved ones camped out by the fireplace and enjoying time under the night stars.

Within the past few years, Win became a fighter and a warrior.  He battled five types of cancer.  He bravely endured chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries.  Through this process, he was surrounded by a team of skilled doctors, Hospice, and supported at home by his wife, daughter, friends, family, and an amazing caregiver. He spent his time watching sports and church on TV, snuggled with his dog, and eating a lot of cornbread and milk. In the end, God made the decision that his work here on earth was finished, and it was time for him to come home.

Our family is very grateful for all the support that we have received over the years.  We appreciate our "prayer partners" and family.   We know that he is now pain free and we will see him again on the other side.  He will be missed, but he will live in our hearts forever.

Services will be provided by McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Virginia.  There will be a graveside service for family and friends on July 16, 2022 at 11:00am. The service will be conducted at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, Virginia.
