Winnie Kennedy Dowdy, age 82, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025.  Born on July 21, 1942, in Dooms, VA, she was the daughter of the late Stuart Kennedy of Dooms, VA and the late Mary Margaret Kennedy Campbell of Richmond, VA.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Samuel Lee Dowdy; brothers, Robert Kennedy (Emily), and Linwood Kennedy (Carrie); and sisters Mataline K. Carroll (William), Margaret Lee K. Caterinacci (Joseph), and Violet  K. Taylor (Grover).

Winnie is survived by her sisters, Reida Morton and her loving sister and best friend, Mary Ross and many adoring nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Winnie was very proud of her careers over the years that included time with Mass Mutual Insurance and the U.S. Postal Service.  She considered her greatest career accomplishment to be the bulk mailing business, Barcode, Etc.. She established the business with  her husband, Sam, and continued to operate after his death until she sold it in 2019.

Following the sale of her business Winnie retired and moved from her home in North ChesterfieLd, VA to her home in Kitty Hawk, NC so she could be close to her sister Mary and her two loving nephews, Mike Ross (Linda) and Tom Ross (Anne) and their children and grandchildren.

Winnie blessed so many lives with her kindness, her smile, and her love.  Her family would like to extend their appreciation to the entire staff of Henrico Doctors Hospital, Cardiac ICU and the staff and Dr. Evers at the Virginia Cancer Institute.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 12:30 pm at Riverview Cemetery, 420 Rosser Ave. Waynesboro, VA. Father Tom DuMontier will be officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2025 at McDow Funeral Home, 1701 S. Main St, Waynesboro, VA.
